1995 built link detached three bed house. Potterton Prima F of the same age. 8mm Microbore. Boiler heats a water cylinder also.

A double panel radiator in the lounge, another in the kitchen diner, the other 6 (hall and upstairs) are single panel. TRVs except in the hall, and traditional lounge thermostat.

Before I get into using calculators etc., could I draw upon the collective knowledge out there about whether simply installing larger radiators (same H x W, more panels and/or fins) would bring any improvements to the heating speed and efficiency?

I assume the boiler was correctly matched to the heating requirements originally. Will substituting larger convectors over-burden the boiler?

Many thanks - braniff

Impossible to say. Which version of the Prima F? What is it gas rated to? What size/output are the current radiators?

If your rads don't have fins then replacing with finned ones gives about 30% more heat output.

That will give a faster heat up time. But no change in efficiency with your current old boiler!

And when you eventually get a condensing boiler a little greater efficiency.

But not enough to justify replacement rads!

Thanks both, clearly no simple answer so I'll sharpen my pencil.
