Bra wire has got through the drum and the machine nows sounds like 'The Wheel of Fortune'!

! I have checked and the wire has gone completely through. I have removed the back plate and I think there is a heater or sump area which may grant access to the drum to poke around to see if the wire is there. Any tips on how to get in there?

After puzzling for an hour I gave in and phoned Indesit. I have just arranged for one of their engineers to arrive on the 19th sep after we are make from holiday. I am now reflecting on it and thinking £120 is a bit steep to repair a washing machine which I assume costs at least half of what they cost to buy new.

Remove the rubber sump under the drum. Dead centre , it will be poking thou that hole.

Managed to get to the sump area underneath. the screw that tightens a metal ring around the rubber sump area was not the easiest thing to get to and undo and do back up. Anyway , got it off and the wire was certainly not there. Put my fingers in as far could reach but could not feel it. Reckon the wire must be towards the back of the drum rather than near the front where the sump is. I think that is where the heating element is and i think the noise is it catching in the element. That appears to be removable from the back. There is only one nut and a couple of wire connectors. Loosened the nut but still seems fixed??? Any ideas or am I barking up the wrong tree guys?

Undo the nut and heater pulls out. But you can't put heater back you will ned a new heater the rubber swells on it. Tip mc back and forth a few times it might slide forward. Otherwise it will need a new drum.

...got in a local chap who easily fixed it. Removed the heating unit. As the rubber seal had (as expected) bulged under the weight of the drum it was impossible to fit back so I had a new one. Cost £48 call out + £25 part = £73. Damn sight cheaper than Indesit @ £120 or their insuance for £170+!

Old heaters are difficult to get back in but not impossible and I would never have had the nerve to renew a working one as it would be like charging the customer extra for my lack of skill.

Don't know how things work in "Hungary" but here we do things a little differently.
It is bad practice to reuse the same element if the gasket is deformed.
