Hi there.

Recently had some work done to our living room. As part of that we had skirting put up all the way to the side of a fireplace. We're now trying to put in a stove but realise that because the skirting is flammable it will be too close for building regs. So we're left with 2 choices:

1) Take all the skirting off near the fire. However for aesthetic reasons that's not the preferred option. We'd rather find:

2) Some form of fireproof skirting board. Ideally we'd get it formed to the same shape as the existing skirting. Is there anyone who could take our old bits of skirting and duplicate them out of an inflammable material??

I know it's a bit of a wierd request but any help would be appreciated.

Best,

Dickon

would you stove not need a hearth? this is likely to be at least 125-150 to each side and 300m from front and 50mm deep.
So skirting would be where?

Have a google for fire proofing paint  I`m sure there is some wierd product around

you may be able to paint it with intumescent (probably spelt wrong) paint. You can sometimes use it on original panel doors when you don't want to be replacing them with fire doors but really you'd have to check with your local BC as some will let you some won't.

That said skirting near a fireplace is a different thing altogether but call them up and ask anyway.
