Installing a fire

Hi, we are planning on installing an electric fire, but most of the images we have seen of fires show the fireplace 'hole' going to the floor. Ours doesn't, there's the skirting, and then about 150mm until the bottom of the hole.

Thinking we will have to cut the base down as otherwise we'll have a gap between the fire and the hearth! Is this normal to have?

Any tips would be good.

You could stick the fire in the hole as is, if it'll fit, conforms to any clearances recommended by the manufacturer, and you are happy to.
