Installing an extractor fan close to a shower in a bathroom

I want to install as above. I heard that the fan must be a minimum distance from the shower or I must fit a lower voltage fan (12V) Is this triue and if so will the fan's perfoemance be affected?

You could get an in line extractor fan which are designed to fit in the ceiling directly above the shower and vent through the loft via a flexi pipe terminating through the soffit board.Full kit available from B+Q or screwfix .
