Installing an oven correctly?

Old one just croaked on us so I've whipped the beast out of the 'carcass' it was installed in. My question is if an oven has a vent (it was a fan assisted electric one) on the back as this seems to, should it either have an airspace behind it when installed or should it be vented to outside? I note the wall behind seems to be a bit scorched and has had liquid (grease or vapour?) running down it at some point in the past. Also the carcass it was installed into is plain chipboard, is this safe?

Really can't speak of the French regulations or way of doing things safely.
But ovens are designed to go in the housing with extra vented systems.
Most ovens will be happy to sit there and be safe.
But you must always follow the manafactures instructions on how the thing should be connected and extra ventalation that is needed.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for that, most French workmen don't seem to know the regs regarding anything either so you're not alone there :D

I think on further inspection it's because the fan and thermostat had gone that excess 'vapour' from the oven was venting out the fan inlet when it was overheating.

Will follow any instruction manual very carefully, at least the power part is easy, most French ovens are 220v 50Hz and 2.7Kw or below.

Thanks again!!
