Installing spotlights in a bathroom

Hi,

I am fitting a new bathroom and plan to fit low voltage spotlights. I plan to fit 3 x spotlights, 1) a downlight above the shower area (IP65), 2) two spotlights in the bathroom area - they will be 2.45m from the ground and outside zones 0, 1 and 2. Can I install a standard flameproof downlighters (low voltage) in this area?

You can install what you want - its your house - and you will be living in it.
Just make sure you follow the manufacturers instructions and follow the building regulations.

Why do you need those, is the bathroom ceiling fire barrier?

Also, when you apply for Building Regulations approval, do you think you'll be able to put forward a convincing explanation of how you'll comply with Parts B, C, L & P? Abandon the idea of cutting holes in the ceiling and B, C & L issues just go away.

I meant fire rated as the bathroom is in the ground floor and through a transformer.

If it was me I'd fit low voltage and fire rated in the bathroom or shower room.

Loads of them here Recessed Fire Rated Spot Lights.

You could use downlights that are not fire rated and use a fire hood instead.

As others have said, it's your house but I think it's best to install the safest you sensibly can.

Next time you're on the ground floor, wander over to the part where you can climb to the first floor, and look up.

See if you can spot an enormous hole in the ceiling.
