Insufficient hot water

I have a horizontal standing hot water cylinder and after the boiler goes on for 30 minutes I only get enough hot water for 1 shower. The central heating is not on at the same time as the hot water. I wonder whether there is a fault with the heating element(s). How can I check this?

Is this something that has gone wrong recently?

There may be air in the heating coil which might need bleeding. They can also be troublesome.

I hope its DESIGNED to be used horizontal!

Measure or feel the flow and return temps on the heating coil after about 15 min while its heating up from cold.
