Hi All,

My bedroom has a flat roof with a plasterboard ceiling. There is a small amount of Rockwool insulation between the joists.
I want to add some additional insulation as the room doesn't get warm. My question is, what is the best way to do this? Ideally, I would prefer not to take down the existing ceiling - that would turn it into a much bigger job than I would like.

With there already being insulation directly above the plasterboard, can I just fix sheets of PIR backed plasterboard directly onto the existing ceiling?

Or

Do I need to baton and leave an air gap between the new insulation and the existing ceiling?

Thanks

No don't batten. Just add the PIR backed plasterboard and skim.

Or fix PIR foil board type insulation and board over it. It’s easier to handle and you might be able to go thicker with the insulation layer more easily. Either long screws for the boards, or batten over the PIR then board over.
