Hi,

I'm wanting to sanity check a DIY idea I've had before I do anything. Our bedroom is a bit cold, and I've spent quite a bit of time improving the insulation which has helped. One of the last cold areas is around the dormer window. We will be getting a lot of work done to the central heating later in the year, which will involve replacing most of the radiators including the one in the bedroom. I was thinking I might do some work to insulate the wall behind the rads while they're being taken off the wall anyway.

The wall behind the radiator isn't especially well insulated, and it's hard to do much to improve behind it due to space constraints. I was wondering if sticking some insulated plasterboard there would help.

My plan would be:

- remove skirting board and uPVC trim under the window sill
- remove old rad and fittings
- attach insulated plasterboard directly onto existing plasterboard and studs (maybe with some foam to fill any air gaps)
- re-attach skirting and window trim. Fill and tidy up edges. Paint.
- install new rad

I've not checked the measurements yet, but I'm hoping one insulated board could cover the area so I don't need to worry about tidying up any joints between boards (just the edges to the adjacent walls).

I'm sure there are better ways to insulate this spot, but this seemed likea cheap and cheerful job I could mostly do myself.

Does my plan seem okay, or are there any red flags? Or any tips for what to do or be wary of?

Thanks!
