Sorry to add to this historic thread but I posted this in "Plastering & Rendering" and I got no reply.
---------------------------------
I have a small bedroom with 3 external walls and I want to improve thermal efficiency without making the room much smaller than it is now. I have hacked off the old plaster on one wall (for a start) so I have bare brickwork there.
Am I right that one option is to apply a 10mm skim coat of mortar (is this easier than plastering?) then apply 2 coats of Bitumen-Latex emulsion, then fix 25mm or 50mm (does it really matter which - I want to keep the room a reasonable size?) thermal-plaster-board using an applicator gun and blobs of adhesive (is this easier/flatter than using battens/furring strips?).
Is this reasonable ?
