Hi,

We have an extended semi with a sloped roof over the extension. In this extension is an open plan kitchen diner jobby with a false ceiling and the original ceiling above (previous owners cheaper out a bit and I think there were many issues with the builder - joy!). This room is always cold and difficult to heat up, so we have recently replaced some radiators around the house which has helped.

The room still loses a fair bit of heat (few degrees over the course of a few hours/day) so i stuck a camera up a downlight hole and discovered no insulation (see photo of roof space looking out to the bifolds). There is quite a draft up there which I guess is good as there's good ventilation, it's just making the room cold! Part of it is insulated where it was a flat ceiling years ago.

What is the best way to insulate up there? I'm thinking about cutting an access hole in the ceiling and getting up there to insulate using loft insulation and then patching/skimming. Would it be safe to lay a board across the joists to walk on?

Thoughts?
