insulation and current capacity

if a run of cable is completely surrounded with insulatio it reduces the cables current crrying capacity to half?

any more info on this?

Depends on the length of cable that is covered in insulation. Correction factors are taking into account when working out the current carrying capacity of the cable, ie. ambient temperature, thermal insulation,grouping factor etc. The type and rating of the protective device also apply. If you have a copy of the BS7671 regs or the on site guide you will find the relevant information. Its probably best to try and run your cable out of the insulation.
