Insulation for concrete floor

Unfortunately my old house has solid concrete floors with no insulation under and the carpet tends to go damp and mouldy wherever anything is standing on it. I do not fancy digging the floors up and doing the job properly and wondered if there was any suitable material to put under the carpet. It would need to no thicker than about an inch.

If you want a quick and dirty fix, then paint Syntheprufe (or similar) liquid dpm on the concrete floor, then lay a 1200 gauge polythene over it before it dries completely.

What is your budget?

In theory you could use 10mm of vacuum insulation panels, plus 15mm of plywood or OSB.
Cost about £100 per square metre.

Realistically you need more space than that.

marmox board and timber floor -chipboard osb board or plywood.

Liquid dpm on concrete first or dpm

It wont give much benefit in energy efficiency but your floor surface will be warmer and damp free.
