I'm currently finishing a basement-turned-large bedroom and it's time to work on the sheetrock. I thought that a stucco or rough latin/meditteranian would look great.
After searching through various odd articles on the web, I found a few methods

1-Wall is primed and joint compound is simply slabbed on. Painted and glazed over-- or faux stucco
2-Real stucco is applied. I haven't found any methods or techniques for that though.
3-Latex paint of desired color is mixed with joint compound, then it's applied to the walls and glazed.

I may have missed some methods. Which of these would seem to create the most durable and realistic wall, while not being a royal pain to put up?

Sincere thanks for your time ;) Any opinions would be appreciated greatly.
