Agreed with a local handyman (recommended to me) £300 for a pair of 1200 mm iron gates supply and fit.
He came just before Xmas with a pair of flimsy and very light gates with wafer thin hardware and 10 mm screw bolts to fit.

He had welded a plate to the posts which he screwed down onto the concrete but the gate kept tipping up  . He decided to ask my neighbour if he could weld my post to his existing gate post and was politely told to go away!

Needless to say I fired him which did not go down too well.

Lightning strikes again as I had agreed £ 500 with a local gate man to supply and fit a 6 ft gate.

He fitted the post which was 6 inches too short but he told me not to worry as he would weld a 6 inch piece on.

Also the gates that he had tacked together for my approval were horrible and nothing like what I had showed him pics of.

He too has been fired and he showed up at my door within 10 minutes of my call saying that he would be returning in the morning with a rope to pull the post out.

The moral is GIVE THE CUSTOMER WHAT HE WANTS!

Think I will make me some wooden gates.

Truthfully and with respect, what did you expect for 300 dabs?

The first gates were 1200mm each. 2.4m in total.
The second gate 6'.
Did the gap get narrower?
