US politics doesn't work in quite the same way as it does in Europe. An American who was on Question Time recently said that he'd been all round Europe and observed that, to quote his own words, "you're all Democrats". I'm sure he did mean Democrat with the capital D, in which case what is the US definition of a Republican? Is it one who, when thwarted at the ballot box, tries to shoot the president ---

Any politician that gets elected in the USA or Europe shortly will be a disaster. Even George Bush and Tony Blair could ride the crest of an economic wave. Doesn't matter who they are when they get into power and have to ride the trough of a slump.
