Is knitting a thing of the past?

I see no reason why you couldnt use steel wool. be a pain to unravel it to get it into one strand in order to knit a chain mail vest or something manly. You could also look at adding weights onto your needles in order to give you that extra workout.
 
Anything is possible in the knitting world. Even Rock stars are made by knitting.

Mrs Mottie knitted me a whole outfit once. Very comfortable.

We got shown how to do it in first year seniors as part of the curriculum done it for a few weeks same as using sewing machines etc , same as the girls also had to do woodwork and metal work
 
I enjoyed the needlework we did in home economics, particularly the sewing machines.
I remember making a very luxurious pouch with draw string top to replace the cheap plastic effort that was supplied with the game of scrabble for holding the tiles.
I was very proud of it.
Made me a huge hit with the girls in class too....
So cool.

In Mrs Motties school, they had a mock house and all the girls were taught how to cook, clean, dust etc. and once a week they had to cook a dinner for the headmaster.

We had similar, girls did 'domestic science', boys did woodwork.

All was well in the world.

Mrs fillys school allowed the girls a crack at woodwork, she still has and uses a sewing box she made with her own fair hands. It's ***t, but she's pleased with it.

First 2 years at our senior school everyone boys and girls had to do these mixed into 2 half days a week .
Cookery /home economics/ needlework/ metalwork/woodwork/ pottery/ art/ technology
Then in year 3 you had your options and dropped to 4 with these added to the list ...tech drawing/ motor mechanic / bricklaying and design technology were we would make canoes out of fibre class amongst other stuff .
Final 2 years it dropped to 2.
We had quite a few girls do woodwork for the 5 years . either sex could do any of those they chose so quite a few guys done the cookery right through and knew a couple that ended up as chefs

we used every sort of hand tool available as well as lathes (wood and metal) welding/brazing torches /kilns/ molten metal crucibles /pillar drills / band saws / table saws basically every electrical tool you would get in a machine shop / wood working shop
