Is my builder botching my rendering?

Hi,

Just after some views of people with a better understanding of rendering than me.

Picture 1 is the terrible job our builders did rendering the lip above our bedroom window. I believe they used a stop bead which meant water didn't drip but got drawn back towards the house (hence the black mould). It also started cracking after 6 months.

They are now back to fix this (18 months later!) and picture 2 is taken after their first day's work.

Just after comments on their work, specifically:

1. The overhang/ lip seems way to big. it is about 8 cm and all the houses in the area have an overhang of about 2cm. Is this too much weight and what likely caused the cracking the first time round?

2. Have they used the wrong beading again? I thought they should use a bell cast so that water forms a drip. My builder said a bell cast isn't appropriate and he has used a Wing bead, which I can't find any information on google. Looking at the profile, there is nothing to cause a drip to form, in fact the overhang slopes down towards the house so isn't this just going to draw water towards the house again?

That job looks very messy/amateurish. I would always use bellcast bead to form a drip. The photo with the stop bead used as a drip says it all, just a waste of time, plus you'll always have the join showing under the soffit. So my advice would be, use a bellcast. You can get them in galvanised metal, stainless steel or plastic. They look good and do the job they''re meant to do.
