hello all, any advice on the following would be gratefully accepted...

I have a Ferroli optima 701 combi boiler installed with the new central heating system when I bought the house 7 years ago.
Three years ago the boiler stopped working and as the problem seemed to be that the system was clogged up with black sludge I had it de-sludged, using sentinel X400, which has kept it chugging along till now...
The boiler was taking longer and longer to fire- re-lighting would get it
to work but now can't get the pilot to light at all, the boiler clicks on, fan
is whirring away but nothing else.Had a plumber in,he opened up the motor and it was sludged up-he suggested a power-flush,but he said that wouldn't necessarily fix the problem,or get a new boiler instead of throwing good money after bad...So now no hot water & I'm confused-£500 for a powerflush or new boiler-£1500. Could it be something else ? Why is it sludging up? Could I de sludge it myself and keep it going a while longer? Thanks for any ideas

Even if you buy a new boiler you'll need a powerflush. £500 is a bit too high though.

I'd say have the flush done, mend the boiler's other problems and start saving for a new boiler relatively soon.
