I have just had the side of my house rendered, and am concerned about the danger of water penetration at the edges. The picture below is of the corner with the front of the house. You can see the brown stopbead to the right and gaps where it meets the pointing at the front. I think that the plasterer should have covered these gaps in mortar to prevent water seeping in behind the render. I would be grateful if anyone would agree with my plasterer who seems to think it is not part of doing a proper job.
Big thanks in advance

Agree it doesn't look very pretty but it won't be a big issue for water penetration.
Can't you fill it yourself if you don't like it like that?

Why was the render bead brought out to the corner of the finishing brick, is the rendered wall also finishing brick as opposed to block?? ...pinenot :)

And is/was that wall the same brick as on your image and if so how did the original render terminate at the corner? ...pinenot :)

The side wall did not have brickwork, it had sand and cement render which simply went to the corner. You can see a strip of it in the picture.

Yes but the render had to be applied to something, if not brick what? ...pinenot :)

the new render went on top of the old render where it was sound. Where it was unsound it was hacked away and repaired witih mortar

Right, at this stage I think a polysulphide (suitable colour) to seal up the exposed joint is the best that can be expected. Pity the stop end hadn't been held back half a brick and all render cleaned from the exposed section as this would have been a nicer look, but what's done is done...pinenot :)

Given that it is the front of a house in a conservation area I would think that mortar would look better. Would polysulphide give better sealing?

It will certainly give a better seal, as far as the conservation issue, you'd best ask the controlling body in question...pinenot :)
