I have a Panasonic TX 32LXD85 TV & intended buying a Yamaha YAS 93 Soundbar. A friend has one with his LG TV & he says that I need to have an optical input for the soundbar. I can't seem to locate one on my TV so I'm wondering if it will be incompatible ?
Your friend doesn't know his "ins" from his "outs", and he's only partially correct.
The Yamaha sound bar has multiple inputs for sound: Two opticals and a coax for digital signals. There's also a stereo audio in (red and white phono sockets) for analogue audio. Your TV has the same red and white phono sockets marked as Audio Out. Connect both sets of sockets together using a stereo phono cable. Set the Yamaha to the ANALOG input using the remote.
With your combination of TV and soundbar there'll be no difference.
"Digital" is only a better way to connect in certain circumstances, but not all. In the case of your TV, digital and analogue audio are exactly the same quality. The connection method makes very little difference.
If you wanted the best signal from a DVD player/Blu-ray player/Sky box/games console etc then you'd connect that sound source directly to the soundbar using an optical or coax digital connection. Picture would go to the TV via HDMI or SCART. But for sound from the Freeview channel tuner, use the analogue audio connections. That will be the best connection for that source.
