Just had a shower installed and I have noticed a 1-2mm gap between (what looks like) the silver decorative finish on the shower and the tile

The gap suggests to me that water can get past the decorative finish

and behind the tile is plasterboard

Is going to cause issues? Such as the plaster getting wet, failure and leaking?

Or is the decorative finish, merely decorative and there is (or should be) something behind this that will prevent water ingress?

I would say,if the bar feels v rigid and secure, chances are,as others have said, bit of silicone will sort it...If play in the whole shower,at all, could signal he /she has done less than a great job and any play means water will get in behind the shrouds.
