is this a sensible power flush quote?

BG offer a first class Powerflush and ive never heard any complaints outwith the price, in my experience ive saw many a joke of a Flush being performed by "THE LOCAL PLUMBER" meaning that the customer ends up paying BG to do the flush correctly. Fair enough the quotes from BG may be a few hundred quid more expensive but that does come with a lifetime guarantee.

spot on mate. spent allday on thursday flushig 10mm microbore on 15 rads.... and did not charge £1500. i didnt see the price charged but had i quoted it would have been more like £7-800. we use the flat rate £695 for 10 rads then add on some extra for extra rads.

and ive been called back plenty of time to customers who turned down my quote for a cheep cheep quote. they complained that they had the work done that ive advised but its no better.

so mr. smith , how long did he flush it for? did he pump the rads indiviudually ?

well he was here most of the morning and said you dont need to turn em all off.

dry em mate... you pay cheep you get cheep.

and the magna clean does protect.... glowworm/vaillant heat exchangers
for example.

i went to a house the other day, a job buggered up by a plumber (so not even a heating engineer) and the plumbers flush consisted of putting in some no nonsense cleanser then 1 week later draining the system and adding no nonsense inhibitor. made pretty much no difference and they left the system full of air causing it to overheat. nice one!!

a magnaclean is a good idea and it does help the system by collecting the sludge that circulates, it won't help if the system is already blocked but it's a preventative measure not a fix.

excactly my point. i clean out magna cleans anytime see them in prems... systems that ive see powerflushed to crystal quality still have crap floating and loosening up over time.

Powerflushing is ineffective on microbore. Most Powerflush machine manufacturers give disclaimers on ubore because of the flow restriction.

And a powerflush is all about flow and pressure. No flow = no pressure = Dirty rads = Waste of time.

Totally agree Simon.

I always inform my customers of the drawbacks of flushing with microbore and indeed if they have a gravity primary system.

if theres no circ to rads on microbore then yes the manifold needs to come out... otherwise the machine can sort it. thats where the magnaclean comes in.... any gunge that loosen after we leave gets caught. we also use the double cartige with the machine and also the magna that we install before the job

eh? for BG? £695 is standard price for flush and MC, and its a flat rate, you dont add extra on for more rads.

£592 is national rate for flush alone.

we add on extra for more than 10rads as well

that used to be the case until a few years ago, 11 or more was more money, now its a flat rate. how do you add extra money onto the quote?

also i forgot to say those prices will be cheaper with the new VAT rate.

1/2 hour additional labour per 2 rads over 10/11. mind you ive been off sick for 4 months so a bit may have changed... but weve got lots os 15+rad systems on the patch which can easily stretch into 1 1/2- 2 days work.

who told you to do that?

iam sheff north, and we were told to add on more for bigger or problematic systems by the tsm.. we jus add extra labour time to the job (ya can put on ya quote at the bottom) i also used to charge more for a reconfig as well
