Had to take down some damp plasterboard and found this. Some bricks are unsupported and in one place you can see where someone has put a bit of wood in to support the brickwork.

Picture two has been turned on its side when uploaded.

Any idea as to what needs doing to put this right?

Is it a double bay (ie/ is the upstairs above it also a bay window, or is there a little roof above the downstairs bay)??
If it's a double bay then I'd get it sorted before it falls down.
If just ground floor bay, get it sorted to stop it leaking!

Phil.

I assume that the brickwork is between the top of the ground floor bay and the bottom of the first floor bay. It was normal in pre-war houses to use the timber window as the support for all above. The problem comes when the windows are replaced with plastic, when a proper lintel arrangement should be fitted but seldom is.
