Hi all,

So basically, I've been lugging xmas stuff from out of the girlfriends attic and noticed a fair bit of wiring running from one little box to various corners of the attic. It's probably fine but after mentioning it to my girl she's getting concerned and wants me to find out if its safe.

The wiring is thus:

Small metal box with sticker saying 13 amp with no switch attached to wood stud. From the right side of this box is one length of wire that appears to come from the mains socket on the stair landing. I'm guessing this box is known as a fused spur?

From the left side of the box is 3 cables:

Cable 1: is going to the shower pumps fused switch in the airing cupboard, which has a sticker saying 5amp only.
Cable 2: is going to mains socket on a wall used by a mounted tv, again with a sticker saying 5amp only.
Cable 3: looks to be supplying a fused switch hidden in the built-in wardrobe which is seems to be acting as the on/off switch for a mains socket powering led skirting lights, sticker saying 3amp only.

Like I say I am no expert but thought it seemed odd having all these supplied from one little box in the attic. It looks 'professionally done' so have I just worried the girlfriend for nothing?

You expert opinions are gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks.

Lee and the missus.

Its only a fused spur if there is a fuse on the wire that comes from the socket on the landing. Is there one? If there isn't one then there probably should be. It depends on the type of circuit that it is fed from.

Otherwise it sounds OK but some pictures would help.

PS. You mentioned
have I just worried the girlfriend for nothing?

and later, you mentioned
the missus.

I'm guessing that these two people have never met?

Thanks for the reply.

The landing socket is just a standard switched socket but the silver box does have a 13amp fuse in it.

Just had a look on screwfix and the 'box' is a metal unswitched fused connection unit.

If it's all fine then that'll keep the girlfriend (who thinks she's gonna be the missus) happy.

Cheers.

Lee.

"Sounds" like its been done properly then, although I'm not a fan of fuses up in lofts as they aren't that obvious.

At least all the points and fuses are labelled, not a common occurance these days, unfortunately.
