We have zero chance against the likes of USA, Russia, and China.

Israel is an outpost of the USA.

India and Pakistan are only interested in fighting each other and don't have the delivery system to reach us anyway.

If Nth Korea so much as fart then South Korea will invade or the Yanks will nuke them.

So why do we need a deterrent? Who is going to attack us? A fellow member of Europe? Doubt it.

So who?

Germany doesn't have any - nor does Japan - are they quaking in their boots?

Not so I've noticed.

And still you don't grasp the concept of a deterrent. We may have no chance against the likes of Russia or China in conventional warfare. In nuclear warfare, we can and will completely destroy their countries. It's a lose-lose scenario, that's the point.

This country no longer has the resources or the need to act as the world's policeman.

The fact that we have a nuclear weapon is no deterrent to terrorists who would explode one on UK soil at the drop of a hat.
Who do we then strike back at? Half the worlds muslim countries?

There is no major power who is interested in attacking us with nuclear weapons, and the threat of mutual assured destruction is therefore irrelevant.

We do not need these weapons and we cannot afford these weapons.
We are under the the umbrella of NATO and the EU and of course our special relationship with the usa should not be forgotten.
Get rid now. Sell them on e -bay.

They are very large countries and we have a handful of warheads that would probably be intercepted. They could target every town in the UK with a village post office, pub and a copper. We would be annihilated - they wouldn't. But why would they target us anyway? Why not target Germany or Japan?

Intercepted by what? Counter-missile systems are still not fully deployed by anyone, so far as I'm aware. And as for 'a handful', try 64 missiles capable of launching 768 independently targettable warheads. More than enough to ruin any country.

But who would attack us anyway? A terrorist strike with a dirty bomb? Probably - but who do we attack in retaliation? How does Germany survive without them? Or Japan?

Germany signed a treaty in the 70's not to have them, they do share them with the US, who have them located in Germany.

Japan has the capabilities and infrastructure to build them at will. The Japanese are happy being a nuclear ready state.

So if Japan is nuked they can order a few?

I understood Germany to be restricted in their armaments - summat to do with a certain ex leader of theirs a few years back when he thought he could just walk into most European countries.

Not sure if Japan is similarly restricted but would not be surprised if they were.

All of which takes us nicely to a mistake that the British made after the first world war when voices such as Joe's said that the British had no more enemies and the could let their guard down.... Then when Mr Hitler caused a bit of a fuss in Europe Britain had no up to date equipment to slap him back into place..... Shame really it could have saved a lot of upset

The militarisation of Germany was observed for a decade before WW2 - it didn't happen over night. It was a war of occupation to reclaim land they believed was theirs (most of Poland) just as Argentina tried to reclaim the Malvenas in the Falklands conflict. It won't be long before someone tries to claim Libya.

Who is going to attack us? Russia? China?

Probably nearly every other country in the world would want to attack us. We are too keen to dictate to others what they should do. We should get our own house in order.

We should get our own house in order.

Yes and ditch trident. We don't need it. And then we'll be seen less as war mongers with a chip on our shoulder in the eyes of the world.
In any case why would any country attack us with a nuclear weapon?
(Apart from terrorist attack)
And who do we strike back at? A tent in the desert?

We have sweet fa in terms of resources. We are a bankrupt liability controlled by the eu. Get used to it.
We can't even send our current small army into battle with proper equipment and yet feel obliged to spend billions on a usless nuclear weapon.
Those of you who support it should be made pay for it, then you'll change your tune.
