It's not recognised globally at all, and only 4 countries in Europe have boycotted Eurovision so far.

Slightly off topic but I was at school when ABBA won Eurovision. A kid in my class (who is now my Brother in Law) saw them in person when he got a ticket for Top Of The Pops. He said the audience was very small and they had several stages in the studio. When different groups set up and were about to play, several roadies with a long piece of rope pulled the audience from one stage to the other using the rope as a barrier!
