"More than 3 million demonstrators – one in 20 of all French people – marched yesterday against the President's plans to raise the standard retirement age from 60 to 62."

We are heading towards 70 FFS!

The french do very well out of the e.u, Britain and Germany are subsidising their early retirement.

I have always found it gratifying that the French are the biggest contributors to the UK rebate, and long may they be.

Without the rebate requirement they would be net recipients.

Even if the retirement age was raised to 80 in the UK we'd just bend over and take it.

I thought that G Brown had given the rebate up. At least I know he signed away valuable concessions fought hard for by Maggie Thatcher.

The law has already been passed. So one can only gaze on with amusement. :)

Their government are learning how to handle their own people at last!

may be we should tell rest europe they have to drive on the left as we make to many sacrifice for them

The reason these cuts are coming now, is because cold season is coming, and people don't like to protest in the cold. But the cuts are only implemented a year before there is an election. So they will be reversed, and cost us even more. So politicians do what they do best, lie, implement changes that they can't implement, and get overthrown.
