Hi everyone!
Don't know if I've done something really stupid.... I needed to cut a plug off of an electric fire suite. It was not plugged in. I used a hacksaw then wrapped the end in electrical insulation tape. I know nothing about DIY/electrics and now I'm wondering if it's safe, ie won't start a fire etc. Probably should've asked you all before I started, I know!

if its unplugged from the wall then its now even more safe as nobody can plug it back in. The fire uses electricity it does not produce it....

One of the Pro's on here recommends bending the 2 shorter pins on the plug towards each other so that the plug can't be pushed into a socket. But, as Marty said, as long as it's unplugged it's safe.

Thank you so much martygturner! Wasn't sure if I had made the wires unsafe somehow by cutting through them. Like I said..... I know nothing!!
And thank you too boringoldcodger, the plug is in the bin, never to be used again.
