Joining new roughcast to old

Hi everyone/anyone,

Got a builder working on my extension and the roughcast has been finished in the last week. I have noticed that at the rear of the house the join between old and new has some sort of metal beads(Not sure what it is?) running the height of the house. They have put expanding foam in between so its stands out like a dogs d***. Surely the foam is either surplus to requirement or its hiding something?

I am worried the gap between beads would be somewhere water can get in?

Any reassurance or confirmation would be great!

Regards
Martin

Quite normal and good practice to install expansion bead between extension and existing building. Where have they used the foam?
Post a pic.

Ok thank you. I will post a pic later this today when I am back at the house.
It’s just one of those things to look at, for someone not in the trade it looks wrong/unfinished.
