I am taking out the ceiling & 1st floor in an 1820's cottage and want to know what size joists I need to use and also the frequency that they would need to be placed to replace the old creaking beams!

The span is 4.6mtrs wide.

Many thanks in advance...
:D

Probably. Shytalkz will be along soon to correct.

Cheers Lads, :D with regards to losing headroom the upstairs ceilings are 8' high so losing a couple of inches off those shouldn't be a problem, as long as downstairs doesn't get lower!
