Defunding the police isn't about spending less money overall, it's about spending some of the police budget on social services and mental health support. Reallocate the police budge isn't a very catchy strap line though.

Correct and it was weaponised by the RW. They don't do nuance or details. Kahneman put it best, generally people make decisions on the description rather than the details. They see slogans and posters and don't look into the details and facts beyond.
