Can anyone reccomend a surface mounted junction box to replace this?

Can you bring the cables through the rear of these? See those two central holes, but perhaps ps they're for afixing the box?
No. as you say the two holes are for fixing the box to a surface. Looks like the existing is inside a stud wall so will you make an access point
