Was following the problems with Connaught and was really shocked.

I subbed quite a bit of work from them in the SE over the last few years and will suspect so did quite a few other small contracting companies.

So those 10,000 jobs in jeopardy could be quite a few more as I suspect quite a few sub-contractors of every trade will be affected.

If any of the guys on here are affected by this then I truly feel for you as I know what this feels like. all the best and sorry if this is off any topic.

I'd have thought it would an opportunity for smaller contractors to get some of the market share previously held by connaught. All those properties are still going to need serviced.

Unfortunately you would think so but rarely works out that way. Councils, housing associations as such don't want the hassle of dealing with individual contractors for this scale. It will most likely go to someone like Mears or an off shoot of Connaught Management that will start up under a different umbrella.

Whoever get's it will have the bargaining power of making subbies reduce their prices to keep the work, seen it happen many times.

At least any subbie who has ever moaned about Council Tax can feel pleased that he's helping to keep it down.
