Karndean + underfloor heating

Hi,

As the title suggests, can Kardean be laid onto a floor which has underfloor heating?

If so what if any special considerations need to be taken?

Yes it can. Is it electric or water based heating?

You have to acclimatise the floor to the room first. Probably have to lay a screed (depending on your suf-floor condition) and use HT (high temperature) adhesive.

Turn heating off 48hrs prior to and after installation then gradually increase the temperature to a max of 27 degrees.

It will be a water based system.

Sub floor will be both timber (Joists @ 400mm centres with an 18mm ply fixed to them) and concrete / screed (Beam and block + dpm+80mm Kingspan/Celotex + 70mm screed)

Another question, will i then require some type of smoothing compound over the top of these surfaces?

It will be a water based system ?? So you are yet to have it installed??

A few questions arise then.

What you need is a floorplan with all detail. I.e, what screed are they using? (very important). Is there a joint sealer where concrete meets ply? It's imprtant that you get details of all the products used and if it is yet to be installed you may have to allow drying times.

Difficult to be precise at the moment but your UFH installers will only do their own job (with pride and passion) hopefully and suitable floor coverings come later!!

You have to be carefull about floor coverings as they meet there own sub-floor restrictions.

Ask, what DPM and why a 70mm screed is being used (70mm sounds excessive) Is the screed water or latex based? and will it be power floated etc ? Without this info no one will be able to help you..
