HI
just wondered if anyone has any ideas on this....
the boiler is about 5 years old and already has had a new fan unit but tonight it stopped working. The fan is still working but the number display is now blank and the unit is not firing up.

I spoke to Keston but they do not have any engineers in my area (Windsor Berkshire) and so they can not help...... pretty poor I'd say!

Anyway - still got a cold B&B and people will be expecting some hot water and heating ASAP so any help would be great,
thanks

Paul

Your boiler seems to be operating as normal ( being faulty! ).

None of us can know whats wrong without being there and testing it.

There was somebody who posts here called Happy Plumber in Berkshire. Perhaps you could trace him and send a PM?

Otherwise all you can do is to find a local engineer who is prepared to work on Kestons. Few will because they are so unreliable and spares are not greatly stocked at merchants.

We would be blamed by the owner when we had fixed one and it failed a few days later ( as they often do ).

You SHOULD have taken out a BG cover if you run a business. But even BG dont always manage a speedy repair. One landlord had BG visits on four successive days in a week before deciding to replace the boiler!

Probably a fuse blown on the MCBA Board - you need a good local RGI to have a look MCBA may be faulty these are not cheap so make sure the two onboard fuses are checked first (when new there are spare fuses located within the MCBA - hope things warm up soon!

thanks for the ideas. Found someone to look at it tomorrow so just hope it gets sorted then....

what make of boilers would anyone recommend?

I coined a new phrase the other week...

"Doing a Keston".

Meaning:

Inexplicably breaking down repeatedly without any manufacturer support and even less prospect of a working future.

To replace it - look at the new (kind of) InterSystem HE40 from Atmos. Very flexible flexible flue options. Very simple appliance.

More likely you will get the sucking through teeth, "its not worth repairing, could be thousands".

"I can fit you a new boiler tomorrow for only £4670 !"
