Since there seems to be a lot (at least more than I can find elsewhere) of people with experience with this unit, I thought I'd ask here:

There is a lot of salt build-up on the inside of the unit. The buildup that occurs in the section where the salt is placed is no problem as I just break that off the sides and it's fine.

I'm concerned about the salt buildup in the main part of the unit though. Should that be left alone? Is this normal? If not, will it damage anything? What should I do with it?
