Kingfisher II not firing but pilot lit

On a car starter motor whacking it with a hammer usually works, but on a precision instrument like a boiler I imagine this might be an unwise approach.

No, that approach frequently works

I gave it a few timid taps with a 'mer. No effect.

On closer examination, there is a kind of black splurge out the back of the black plastic unit. It's either some kind of resin or adhesive or the solenoid has overheated and melted its case. I can't tell if it's the same material as the plastic or not. It certainly didn't show that on the picture I saw of a solenoid on the internet.

Anyway, hopefully I'll find somebody to fix it tomorrow, and life can retun to normal. Not sure I enjoy this 1930's existence with lots of pans of hot water.

I've tried half a dozen numbers from the yellow pages and not heard a squeak.

Clearly not tried our number in the Yellow pages, we answer or call back within 30 minutes to a BT number. !

However, we can never guarantee any particular arrival time since we cannot leave a boiler in pieces on the floor and have to complete each job before moving on to the next. Best we can do is to call 30 minutes before we expect to arrive.

Except when feeling particularly benevolent on a Sunday we dont go south of the River. During the week its about a days drive there and back!

Last time I went on a Sunday it was 2 hours there and a little less on the way back but the client had been ripped off by someone local and in that case I bend over backwards to show that most RGIs do a good job.
