Hi,

Got to fit kitchen units in my house soon, and haven't done it before so got a couple of questions.

Walls are brick with about 3/4" mortar render on top. What would be the usual or recommended fixings to use, especially for the wall units? A certain size and length of rawl plug and screw?

And don't suppose anyone knows normal height either from floor, ceiling, or worktop, of wall mounted units? And extractor height above cooker?

Thanks! :D

This will save me a lot of typing.

The height is only a guide since if everyone in the family is under 5' 2" you will of course find lowering units more suitable.
The extractor height is stipulated by the manufacturer and can be found in the instructions. The above is a guide and does not have to be followed religiously, common sense and logic dictate most DIY projects.

Thanks for the link, seems very good.

I see they recommend 2 and 1/2" 10 gauge screws. I'd have thought 12 gauge would be better for possibly heavily-laden wall units. I'll have to see what good quality chunky rawl plugs I can find.

If it was a satellite dish, I'd know what to use and stick shield anchor bolts in, but maybe that's a bit much for a wall unit...

About the height of the wall units - go to a show room, or to your parents, or friends, check if the height of their cabinets is comfortable for you and measure it. Simples! :)

Any full height units in the kitchen will fix the height of the wall units automatically. if there aren't any, then it's up to you, and what feels comfortable for you.

The gap between worktop and wall units in our kitchen is 430mm on one side of the room, and 440mm on t'other side ( *%*$£*&"£* kitchen fitters! ) as I found out when tiling above the worktops, having pre-cut all the tiles for the smaller gap

mom's uppers were 600 above the counter to the bottom of them.
I tried the same but they felt too high ( and I'm 6 foot 4 so not a reach issue )..
dropped them to 520 ( 2 of 250x200 tiles under them plus a bit extra for grout lines and adjustment ) and they feel right..

then again my counter is raised to 940mm AFFL because I'm tall.. that extra 40mm or so makes all the difference..
