Kitchen sink - first fix to second fix connection query

The attached pics are a cross sectional view of the pipe work coming out my kitchen sink U bend which connects first fix plumbing to second fix. Question I have is whether the slight upward gradient is a cause for concern? The upward gradient only runs for the length that is shown in the pic. Once the pipe goes through the hole in the unit (shown on the right hand side in the pic), there is 90 degree bend and then a clear downward gradient across the back of the unit and then out to the drain.

Occasionally noted smells from the drain and I wondered whether this might have anything to do with it?

Any advice appreciated.

Not great, but no real cause for concern. This alone wouldn't cause smells.
