Kitchen Sink Waste

Hello,

I was just wondering if someone could help me please!

I am changing the waste underneath my kitchen sink, as I've installed a dishwasher and needed a waste that I could connect both the dishwasher and washing machine wastes to.

I bought this:

However, after connecting it to the sink waste successfully, the end of the trap that connects to the waste pipe (the pipe leaving the kitchen) is too high up, so I can't connect it up.

My question is, could I use something such as this to solve the problem:

Or should I be getting something else?

You shouldn't be trying to connect higher up, that's just asking for smelly trouble. Post a photo of your outlay and we can advise better

Avoid the flexible waste - it will fill with gunk from the sink waste.

Two compression elbows and a short length of 40mm waste pipe will enable you to link the trap and the waste pipe.

or, and better, use solvent weld (assuming that your existing waste pipe through the wall is suitable)

Couple of observations:

1) Your old set up didn't have a trap
2) Your dishwasher waste pipe needs to rise up to the level of the underside of the sink before dropping into the waste connection - otherwise the waste water from your sink will flow back along the dishwasher waste and fill the d/w sump with sink water.

How much lower does trap need to be to meet the waste pipe that exits the wall ?
You may be able to just use a trap extension.

You could look for Y connector for your existing set up - i.e. Two into one either replaces the existing connector. Eg Mcalpine twin sppiggot or viking hat connector !
Of course you must ensure both waste pipes go high before going down to the WM or DW to stop backflow or crossflow.
Best to persist with your trap and try some sort angle bends back to back.

Thanks everyone for your replies and help. In the end, I managed to find this in Wickes https://www.wickes.co.uk/McAlpine-WM11-Sink-P-Trap+Twin-Nozzles---38mm/p/226994# . It has an adjustable length which meant I was able to get it in line with the waste pipe:
