Hi there

I am going to have an attempt at replacing my mixer kitchen tap as I am getting some leakage around the knobs when the taps are turned on. Just a bit of a drip that can build up over time but it stops when the taps are turned off. Anyway I have no real experience of plumbing apart from replacing a few parts in the toilet.

I have purchased what I believe to be all the tools I need to do the job. I had purchased box spanners thinking it would have a nut to remove under the tap but this is not the case. I have already had another surprise realising the cold flexi hose has a check valve on the end and won't attach to my isolation valves I am fitting.

So I would really appreciate advice how to remove the tap. If I can't remove that then I haven't a hope of completing this job.

Thanks in advance

Paul

It looks as though you unscrew the large nut shapped object and slide it down over the flexi pipes as you lift the tap out. Once you have done that you should be able to relase the push fit flexis I think
Yeah I am just trying to figure out how to unscrew it. I can see if I twist the tap from above this nut shaped object also twists. I have sprayed WD40 on it and seeing if I can get to it with a basin wrench. It is really tricky to get to. The usual I am sure with plumbing jobs!

I am trying to wedge the top of the tap like this so I can try and make it budge underneath. I am working solo which probably doesn't help

Can you grip the nut underneath and turn the tap at the same time? Or twist the tap from above until it hits the tiles/wood or mallet and then keep turning from above?

I ended up removing some of the white plastic drainage pipes to allow me to have a hope if hell of getting something onto it. The good news is I have managed to get it loose. So plain sailing from here I hope (wishful thinking perhaps as next job is to turn off the water and cut pipes and add isolation valves.

I notice my new flexi hoses are much longer so will it just be case of a bit more spiralling of the flexi hose or should I make my cuts on the copper pipes lower.

I was planning on these two cuts on the cold water pipe with the short piece of pipe to be used to connect from the cold isolation valve to the cold flexi hose (this has a check valve and a male ending so was planning on a compression joint here too)

If any of this sounds totally wrong please shout and rescue me from disaster
