Kitchen U bend question

I have the following mcalpine U bend right below my kitchen sink about 18 years old hasn’t been removed. I want to remove it to clean it out as it’s rather old and occasionally the sink drain has some smell. Instead of cleaning it could I just simply replace just that U bend part? Will another mcalpine U bend size and dimensions actually line-up? Or will cleaning it out suffice?

OP,
There's no need to replace the trap - simply replacing the washers and cleaning the u-bend will usually do the trick.

Dont use bleach or any other harsh chemicals in your waste and trap - you or an unknowing plumber could get splashed when working on the sink plumbing.

There are twin appliance spigots on your waste tail - do you have any appliance waste hoses connected to the spigots?

A few full sinks with hot water and bleach and that will flush the trap.

As the other 2 chaps have mentioned, it tends to be the overflow that catches detritus over time and that ends up with the occasional smell as it rarely gets flushed clean. Running the sink up with hot water and a bit of bleach so it runs down the overflow can also help flush that out. Just keep an eye down below in case the overflow isn't the tightest
