Hi all, had this problem for abit of time but thought one of you guys on here might know of or have sorted this problem. One of my kitchen units has got a mold problem but im stuck as to why. Its not on an outside wall and its not near water pipes or any water or heat source. Air flow could be an answer but theres gaps in the back and under the kick board...any ideas???

Most obvious one? If you ain't using the socket, then seal it off, simply cover the hole; my guess? bacteria in the stagnant air behind the unit is flowing into the storage area every time you open and close the door causing a vacuum?

Looking at the 'spots' it looks similar to condensation mildew on walls where rooms are used to dry clothes but the windows are rarely opened?

See if you can fill any interior gaps with caulk and wash off the stains.

Does the microwave have a J cloth under it as it looks to have, do you do a lot of things that cause water to run out the front & under it? If so is it possible it could be getting down the back or side of the work top? It seems strange that only one cupboard is affected if it were to be condensation. Unless as crystal says it is something to do with the socket aperture. Give it a wash down with fungicide (diluted bleach) to remove it completely.

do you have anything with a fan venting [tumble dryer fan oven]below the worktop and your cupboard is the end off the line/coldest cupboard full off say tins or beside an old freezer ??

Hi, the item under the microwave is one of those anti slip things and there isnt any vents behind or near the cupboard. Could it be the microwave? Does the kick boards needs air vents in or is that gap it has now ok for air flow?

nothing damp in there just a box of stuff kitchen foil and cling film and some odds and sods..lol

pull it out and have a look behind it.

Might be an old airbrick, or a pipe, or a crack in the wall, or a hole in the floor.

Might be something on the other side of the wall. Basin? Shower? Radiator pipe?
