I have (relatively new 6 month old) Iroko kitchen worktops that have been oiled with Danish Oil.
The problem is that they seem to mark very easily and ring with water, having just given them a very light rub down with 400 grit wet and dry and re-oiled them with 5 coasts of Danish Oil over the course of about 4 days I am wondering if I just need to persist with more coats of oil, or look for a more resilient finish. I think its got to be another oil based finish that will work with the existing Danish Oil.
What are the options for more resilient finishes?
I have seen the following mentioned as options;
[Briwax - apparently works on some oils]
Rustins Danish Oil
Junckers Rustic Oil
Liberon Finishing Oil
Boiled Linseed Oil
Osmo Top Oil
Teak Oil
Tung Oil
What are the comparative merits of these or others I have missed?
Colour (e.g. adds a orange hue to the timber)
Finish (Matt, Satin, Shiny)
Finish Wear (Hard wearing, or requires pretty frequent maintenance)
Water and Stain Resistance (e.g. spilt coffee, good like a lacquer, good, bad etc.)
Other issues ?
From what I have been reading Osmo Top Oil sounds like it might be the best call, minimal colour effect hard wearing and pretty water resistant?
