I'm in the process of specifying a new kitchen worktop for a property development I am planning. In the past, at home I have had corian installed a couple of times and I must say I do like the product. However quotes for this job are coming in at around the £2k mark and I don't wish to spend so much on a property i won't be living in.

I don't want to put laminate in, as I believe the market for this property would expect something a step up, the question is, what is the next step up? One of the issues is that the worktop is a 4.2m length and I'd like if possible to get away from having any obvious seams in the worktop.

Are there any other more cost effective solid surface worktops which cost a fraction of corian. I would say my budget would be between £500-£1000 inc fitting and templating.

Or if not, what are my other options, I spoke to a granite guy today and he was quoting same price as corian.

Off cuts of granite can be found sometimes, depending on local suppliers' availablity and the configuration required.
