i always find these tricky to do and not easy to explain.

the strips are not that wide (typ 40mm) and after taking account of clearance (10mm for laminate) it often does not leave much for the overlap over the laminate.

also generally there is an existing flooring on one side of the room which effectively positions the strip.

i aim to position the strip underneath the door in it's closed position and if anything make it more proud to the door opening side (to minimise any nicks in the corners of the strip at the door frame abutment).

you need to work out the position of the strip before laying the laminate in the door area so that you can be sure that the laminate sheets are cut to the right length to give the 10mm clearance to the strip retainer (normally a strip of U section plastic which is fixed to the floor and the joining strip then pushes down into it) but also long enough for the joining strip to overlap the laminate when pushed in position.

i cut to length slightly long with a hacksaw and then use a flat file to get the joining strip to finally fit into the door frame.
