I'm getting a garage floor laid in concrete soon, the size of the garage is 7metre by 8.5 metre, do I require an expansion joint or can this be laid as one slab, I'm unsure as its farily large and wouldn't like any cracks forming at a later date..

Normally you would get some shrinkage cracking on a slab that size, and traditionally a thin, shallow 'cut' would be made across the slab to control the cracking.
If you reinforce it with square mesh, that will reduce the tendency to crack, and you can also get a mix with polypropylene fibres, which reduces cracking.

Thanks for the info, what would you recommend as the best method?

Also what size mesh and were would I get this from a builders merchants?

Thanks

If the loads are not excesive, A98 mesh should do. It's 200mm square mesh, with 5mm dia bars. Builder's merchants usually sell this in sheets.

Can it be just laid on the dpc and the concrete poured or does it have to be lifted central in the slab somehow?

If the base is firm and well-compacted, anti-crack mesh is usually best mid-height.
There are little plastic 'chairs' you can get to support the mesh in a few places while the mix is poured.
