After noticing some damp patches on ceiling, I went in the loft to investigate.

In the loft I found large tears in about five areas of the felt.

The felt also felt (no pun intended) weak and almost crumbly in places.

Before calling out a roofing contractor, could I get some suggestions on what I can do stop the leaking temporarily.

The driving rain in my area is bad.

No, it just needs reroofed.

The felt goes on first on top of the rafters, then the tiles/slates. If the tiles/slates slates fail, the felt saves the day. If the tiles/slates are perished, as well as the felt, you can't magically make or invent a temporary repair under the tiles/slates.

looks like a marley modern roof tile. I'm guessing they are laid over gauge. can you measure from the top of one batten to the top of the next. ideally in the exposed area
